Science Festival 2024

Learn about plasma physics with researchers, engineers and students. From the infinitely large to the infinitely small, the adventure will be fun and interactive!

PLAS @ PAR will participate in the next Fête de la Science at Sorbonne University from October 10 to 13, 2024. Workshops, shows, games and discussions will allow you to discover or rediscover plasmas and their multiple applications!

In the program

  • Discussion with physicists around thematic posters and an exhibition of 3D models of the solar system.
  • The 3D aurora projections which meet every year a real success will also be present! A unique opportunity to observe the fascinating spectacle of the aurora  (a contribution of the IAP and the LPP). Date: Saturday, October 9: schedules to come (registration on site).
  • Attention transformation! The plasma mirror, very popular with the youngest, will be on display again. Created by the Danny Rose studio, this playful plasma mirror allows physics to be approached through the visual arts; only one rule for young and old: have fun! Continuously, all weekend.
  • Spectroscopy workshop supervised by physicists with homemade spectroscopes built by the students. Continuously, all weekend.
  • Discovery of the Planeterrella to understand one of the most fascinating astrophysical phenomena: the aurora. Continuously, all weekend.
  • The Solar Orbiter game: is based on the eponymous space mission launched in 2020 at the initiative of the European Space Agency (ESA). The satellite studies the Sun by collecting data, high-resolution images of the star and its heliosphere. Aim of the game: to help you discover the scientific challenges of the Solar Orbiter exploration mission. Put yourself in the shoes of scientists, accumulate measurements, discoveries and wisely choose colleagues useful to your laboratory to earn as many points as possible before the end of the mission! Audience: From 10 years old.

  • The video game - PLASMA'DEX: Go on a discovery and adventure, to explore all the aspects and forms of plasma, seek information, learn the different plasmas, discover.  Continuously, all weekend. Audience: From 14 years old.

  • Theater - Plasma who are you?  The main heroine, having difficulty controlling her anger, is stunned by lightning (plasma). She finds herself in the dream world of matter. After meeting “The Solid”, “The Liquid” and “The Gas”, she goes in search of Plasman, who will help her return to the real world. This magical journey and the surprising encounters she meets will help her channel her emotions. Interactive educational show to discover plasmas, the 4th state of matter, through a colorful story and adventure. Project led by the PLASMAScience university research school and its 7 laboratories, from 12 years old. MAX capacity: 60 people. Please come to the PLAS@PAR stand to be redirected to the venue of the performance.
